Looking for another powder to run in the howa 308 since varget is no where to be found right now. im running a 178 eld-m and was getting a average SD of 7 with varget @ 43.6. I tried RL 17 but didn’t like the sd’s I was getting but did like the higher Velocity. I’m looking for yet another powder to try that might get me a low sd’s like varget but yet higher velocity like RL 17. Anyone have any Recommendations?

H4350, however if Varget is hard to find, H4350 is a close second in short availability
Never really gave it any mind since I only use it in my 6.5 I have a stock pile of it. Thanks bud. Time to hit the reloading bench
I like RL-15 and pp2000mr. 2000mr is my go to for heavy bullets and gets good velocity. The only form side is that it's not temp stable. 1.1 ft/s for
Thanks pitts, 2000mr was going to be the next powder I try. I still might. i was at my local shop earlier iin the week and I don’t know how but they got 11 lbs of varget in, so I bought them all. I would like to get a load with 2000mr worked out as well. I have heard most people are getting great results with a heavy pill. Thank you for confirming this as well.
You. Could use BLC 2 Iv loaded lots of 308 and it works great and you can find that powder every where
Thanks Willie, I actually found 6 lbs of varget about 2 weeks ago. Now I can go back to my go to load. Hope your having a blast at U.J ‘s
Have you tried CFE 223
I don’t know if you have tried BLC2 powder yet I load that powder for my friends 308 rounds he really likes that powder sorry I have not shoot these rounds over chronograph as of yet I do remember the bullet wait was 168 Sierra hollow point hope this helps someone
Yes sir I want to clear a spot for me to move on in I would be the house bitch for my rent
H-380 is listed with 165gr and lighter bullets, I'm using it 8mm Mauser also...
You might have to work up the load data, but Leverevolution might be worth a try. I dont shoot or load 308, but in 35 Rem I go Varget or Leverevolution for basically close to the same end results.
One thing to consider about the comparison Varget and Leverevolution. In my 35 Rem Leverevolution shines in heavy for caliber bullets. 200-250gr. If I shoot less than 200gr I go IMR 3031, and then even lighter from 140gr to the lightest 120gr Reloder 7 is the best. I'd imagine at that bullet weight for 308 you'd want the slowest powder for caliber. Though I've never used them, in the same context of my experience loading for 35 Rem, I'd think IMR 4320 and Winchester 748 could likely sub easily for Varget as well for 308. Depending on the bullet weight and application it might outperform it. That said, I'm a big fan of Varget. If I had to narrow down to two rifle powders, one slow and one fast I'd go Varget for the slow powder
I load a lot of .223 and used Varget till I found it burns barrels out faster, so I switched to Hodgdon H335. You can tell the difference right away. Hodgdon has load data in .308 win. in this powder
Have you tried IMR 4064
I have not... I been looking at my local shops for it but they never have it... I would love to try it with 175 SMk’s
Shooters World Precision is comparable to Varget
I figure if Hodgdon H335 was good enough for the military it was good enough for me. If your looking for powder / reloading supplies try Powder valley inc. or Graf and Son. Powder Valley usually has a in stock good supply.
RL 15 is pretty good also
